On July 14th, swimsuits attacked Miami for Mercedes Benz Swim Fashion Week held at The Raleigh Hotel and this year topped them all. D2 Powerhouse was selected to come and work behind the scenes to personally witness amazing fashion shows and top designers make history. Designers such as, White Sands Australia, Poko Pano, Wildfox Swim, Caffe Swimwear, Dolores Cortes, Aqua Di Lara, A. Che. Norma Kamali Swimwear, Cia. Maritima, Luxe By Lisa Vogul, Lisa Blue, Dineila Brazil, A.Z Araujo/Aguaclara/Aquarella Swimwear/Have Faith Swimwear, Kooey Australia Swimwear, Nicolita, Sonia Vera Swimwear, Jogo Beach/Perfect Tan Bikini/Tavik Swimwear and Zingara, all graced the multiple runways to show their collections for Summer 2012. While they were all amazing there were several that not only took our breath away but solidified the very reason why D2 Powerhouse exists.
The week was kicked off by DIESEL which set the bar high to say the least. Backstage had models in a frenzy as the celebrity crowd was at full force. Kristen Cavallari closed the show in an electric blue glass bikini while her fiancé, Jay Cutler looked on with his fellow NFL player Chad Ochocinco. But those weren’t the only stars in the room. The bikinis were so adorable it was hard to take your eyes off of them. Beach Bunny turned up with heat with Kate Upton wearing naughty suits with feminine elements in them, Crystal Jin created a color palette that wowed the crowd leaving them speechless and Red Carter created unique suits through funky accessories and straps from all directions. Mara Hoffman and Luli Fama both then created suits with unique cuts and eye-catching hardware that continued to surpass our expectations , which was hard to do since there had already been so many shows before them.
But our ultimate favorite came from the genius mind of L’Space by Monica Wise. She took the concept of a runway show and turned it into an experience or as she put it “A Vacation”. The room got completely dark and a woman’s voice calmly explained “We were about to go on a trip… there job was to entertain us… so sit back… relax… and enjoy the show.” And entertain us they did. For the next 15 minutes we sat with our mouths open and in complete shock about not only the amazing swim wear that glided before us, but how the suitcases the models carried, head pieces, and small details like hand held cameras and sand on the models butts created an amazing experience. It was the L’Space by Monica Wise show made the countless hours traveled, scorching humidity, and an epic storm finishing off the week all worth it. It is the L’Space types shows that make the love for fashion and their runway shows worth it all.
